My jewelry relies on the most fundamental of design elements; simple
shapes, subtle textures, balance and rhythms that are pulled together
to respond to the movement of the body who wears them, along with a
careful attention to the quality of the materials and the craftsmanship
that is necessary to enhance their design. It is of utmost importance
to me that my work is not only beautiful and well made but designed to
be a pleasure to wear.
Wildflowers
My most recent group, centers around the form of a simple flower structure as a basic unit of construction and decoration. These pieces are intended to exemplify the riotous play and simplicity of a chain of dandelions made by a child while at the same time offering the sophistication of something you might wear to work or to the opera.
"Dance at the Edge of a Field" functions in multiple ways: a sculpture, a branch holding a tiara, which in turn holds a necklace, a pair of earrings and a broach, all meant to be removed and worn (a piece that is meant to have a life even when not in use).
Satellite Series
The source of design for this body of work comes directly from an ongoing creative dialogue I have with my students, for it is on account of them that I’m kept fascinated by the potential of the simplest of forms and processes. I've chosen ellipses as the basic design element here because, like circles, they are forms that enclose but at the same time offer the added subtly of implying direction and thus movement. Silver amplifying the play of light on these surfaces.
